|Drifting Lecture Posted by Koneko Kumamoto July 10 th, 2008
Hi everyone, I’m back! Did you guys miss me? I hope everyone is doing fantastic. Working for Dash Z Racing has been very exciting because I have just completed a 2 Day Driving Class at The Mazda Raceway. I’m sure everyone here is a fan of Drifting, well so am I and I was dying to learn more about it. For all of you not familiar with Drifting you will be able to watch a lot of it on the big silver screen soon in 2 Fast 2 Furious 4.
For all of you drifting fans who want to take a class I totally commend Skip Barber. The instructors there are very friendly and patient. My day started with learning things such as understanding vehicle dynamics & behavior, lane-toss exercises & accident avoidance, and threshold (“panic”) braking. Later in the day I got to apply my new-found skills in the Mazda RX-8, MX-5 & MAZDA3s.
On the second day we learned about heel-and-toe downshifting, emergency lane changes, additional street awareness training, hand brake drift, and powerslide. Even though it was just the basics of drifting I feel I have gained so much knowledge about a car and how to drive a car. Couple of other techniques I would like to learn in the future are Shift lock (compression slide), Clutch Kick, Inertia (Feint) drift or Scandinavian flick, Braking Drift and Dirt drop.
The cost of the 2 day class was about less than twenty five hundred. I personally feel that it was well worth it because I can show off all over the streets now. If I get arrest are you guys going to come and bail me out? Look out for a small girl behind a cop car with purple hair. See you guys next time.
