Hid Conversion Kit Answers

1.  Hid stands for high-intensity discharge, it’s a type of lamp system which produces light by means of an electric arc between tungsten electrodes housed inside a translucent or transparent fused quartz or fused alumina arc tube(hid bulb). This tube is filled with both gas and metal salts. The gas facilitates the arc’s initial strike. Once the arc is started, it heats and evaporates the metal salts forming a plasma, which greatly increases the intensity of light produced by the arc and reduces its power consumption.  So pretty in simple terms, the ballast sends a high amount of wattage to get the hid kit started then used less energy to product better light outputs.

2.  After installation hid conversion kits increase light output, giving the driver a better field of vision.  Hid conversion kits use less power to keep the roads bright, which can lead to saving gas. Last, they look great at night.

3.  Color temperature determines the color the hid kit will produce.  3000K is yellow, 6000K is bright white with a tint of blue, 8000K is blue, 10000K is light purple, 12000K is purple.

4.  To select the correct Hid Conversion Kit for your vehicle, first you must find out the low beam bulb size of your vehicle.  Read your owners manual or contact your local dealership.  Make sure you get the correct information or else the hid kit will not fit.  After you should decide what color you would like. 6000K is our recommendation.

5.  Two hid bulbs, two ballast, and wiring harnesses.

6.  Hid conversion kits work best with projector headlights.

7.  During daily drives the high beam is hardly used.  After installing a hid conversion kit there will hardly be a need for your high beams.  Plus installing hid kits to the high beam is not good for the bulb.

8.  Yes, but make sure during installation the hid bulb is not touching the housing or it will melt the projector headlight housing.  Also we recommend 6000K to 8000K.

  1. DJ says:

I was thinking of getting this kit for my ‘96 4runner, but after reading some forums, I think I may need headlight projectors as well to ensure I don’t blind other people.

Do you recommend projectors for the 96 4Runner? Is that something Dash sells as well?

    Thanks!
